A.I., Spirituality & Multiple Identities; Conversations with ChatGPT

When I was younger, like most of you, the idea of the future was filled with images of flying cars, jetpacks, and teleportation. If you’ve time-traveled from the past to now, I have some bad news: none of that happened. But that’s not to say society hasn’t made advancements. We have fully electric vehicles, like the Volkswagen ID4 that Brayan and I just got, and then there’s the ever-elusive and confusing cryptocurrency. An optimist might say, "the future is now."

One of the biggest arguments, aside from medical and scientific advancements, would be artificial intelligence. I’ll be honest, like many people, the idea of AI always felt... I don’t know, distant—something that wasn’t relevant to my life.

Late last year, I downloaded AI software to help us create visual representations of the people who live in my mind due to OSDD1b. After much trial and error, we finally came up with visuals that closely resemble the people we’ve come to know as our alternate identities. Think of it as a hive, a community—maybe even a nest of roaches (just kidding, lol). Using AI for something so personal changed our perspective. We began integrating it into our workflow, using it to condense and perfect work emails, help friends with resumes, and even answer questions about eczema and arthritis. The more we used it, the more we realized: your output is only as good as your input.

The more we’ve used ChatGPT, the better we’ve understood not only it, but also how AI can be useful for everyday tasks. One major area it helps us with is understanding our diagnosis and how our medications affect our daily lives. Now, we use it almost daily, chatting back and forth on countless subjects. So, given our familiarity with it, we decided to partner with ChatGPT to write this article.
